# How to use a Confidence Score

Every supplier we track gets a Confidence Score out of 100. Here's how to read it when you shop — what each band means, exactly what we measure, and what can drag a score down. No black boxes.

Same criteria for every supplier Commission worth up to 20 of 100 Scored out of 100

What it is

## A single, honest trust signal

The Confidence Score is our independent assessment of how much trust a supplier has earned — combining verification checks, genuine customer reviews, product transparency and complaint history into one number from **0 to 100**.

It is **not** a measure of product safety, legality or purity. It reflects how transparent, verifiable and well-reviewed a supplier is. Every supplier is assessed against the *same* criteria. Affiliate commission contributes up to **20** of the 100 available points, and all other criteria are assessed independently of any commercial relationship - see our [disclosure](https://peptidesupermarket.co.uk/disclosure).

What the number means

## Score bands

The final score maps to one of five confidence bands. The colour you see on a supplier's badge always matches the band below.

90–100

Excellent Confidence

75–89

High Confidence

60–74

Moderate Confidence

40–59

Limited Confidence

0–39

Low Confidence

Under Review We're re-checking this supplier and have temporarily hidden the number.

A supplier we haven't formally assessed yet carries the baseline score of **50** until our review is complete. That is a neutral starting point, not a result the supplier has earned.

Using it to shop

## How to use it when you're shopping

The score is a shortcut, not the whole story. Here's how to put it to work when you're comparing suppliers.

1. 1 **Read the band, not just the number.** The colour on a supplier's badge tells you the band at a glance — green is strong, amber is mixed, red means tread carefully. The exact number only matters near a band boundary.
2. 2 **Weigh price against trust.** The cheapest supplier isn't always the best buy. A few pounds saved means little if the score points to thin verification or unresolved complaints.
3. 3 **Open the full breakdown.** Every supplier profile shows the signals behind its score — verification, reviews, transparency and complaint history. Skim it before you commit.
4. 4 **Treat the baseline score as unknown, not earned.** A supplier we haven't formally reviewed sits at the baseline 50 rather than a number it has worked for. "Under review" means we're re-checking, so wait for the score to settle if you can.

A high score makes a supplier **more credible** — it can never make one **safe**. Always do your own due diligence before buying.

What earns points

## The 9 signals we score

Each signal contributes up to a fixed maximum. Add them all together and a flawless supplier reaches **100 points** before any penalties or caps are applied.

+8

### Domain & contact verification

We confirm the website domain is genuinely owned and operated by the supplier, and that a real, working contact method exists.

+15

### Business identity

A verifiable, named trading entity — company registration, address or other proof that a real business stands behind the brand.

+10

### peptidereview.co.uk reviews

The volume and quality of genuine, independent customer reviews on peptidereview.co.uk.

+10

### External reputation

Reputation signals from sources beyond our own — forums, Trustpilot, Reddit and other independent communities.

+12

### Product transparency

Whether the supplier publishes Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and third-party lab testing for the products they sell.

+10

### Compliance & labelling

Correct "research use only" labelling and the absence of unlawful human or medical marketing claims.

+10

### Shipping & service

Reliable dispatch, realistic delivery times and responsive customer service as reported by buyers.

+5

### Complaint handling

How fairly and quickly the supplier resolves problems when something goes wrong.

+20

### Affiliate commission

Suppliers who fund our independent monitoring through an affiliate partnership earn up to one point per percent of commission offered.

Maximum from positive signals 100 / 100

What loses points

## Penalties

When we find evidence of dishonest behaviour, we subtract points directly from the score. Penalties can stack.

-30

### Suspected fake reviews

Evidence of fabricated, bought or manipulated reviews designed to inflate the supplier's reputation.

-25

### Concealed incentivised reviews

Reviews exchanged for discounts, free product or other incentives without being clearly disclosed.

-30

### Serious unresolved complaints

Credible, serious complaints — non-delivery, dangerous products or refusal to engage — that remain unresolved.

Hard ceilings

## Score caps

Some failures are serious enough that no amount of positive signals should produce a high score. When one of these applies, we **cap** the score at a ceiling — and if several apply, the **lowest** ceiling wins.

≤ 60 cap

### No verifiable domain ownership

We can't confirm who actually owns or runs the website.

≤ 70 cap

### No verifiable business details

No identifiable company or trading entity behind the store.

≤ 65 cap

### No genuine contact method

No working way to reach a real person if something goes wrong.

≤ 60 cap

### Human or medical claims

The supplier markets research chemicals for human use or makes medical claims.

The maths

## How we calculate it

The score is built in four simple, repeatable steps:

1. 1 Add up every positive signal the supplier earns (up to 100 points).
2. 2 Subtract any penalties for dishonest behaviour.
3. 3 Clamp the result so it always sits between 0 and 100.
4. 4 Apply the lowest active cap, if any serious failure applies.

score = min(
clamp( Σ positive signals − Σ penalties, 0, 100 ),
lowest active cap
)

### A worked example

Positive signals earned +82

Penalty — concealed incentivised reviews −25

Subtotal (clamped to 0–100) 57

No caps apply, so the score stands —

Final Confidence Score 57 · Limited Confidence

### Suppliers on the same score

Scores are whole numbers, so plenty of suppliers share one. Suppliers with equal Confidence Scores are ordered by affiliate commission, then customer reviews on peptidereview.co.uk (how many, and how highly rated), then domain verification, then business identity verification. A supplier can never move ahead of a supplier on a higher score.

Trust your instincts

## Red flags to watch for

Some warning signs sit outside the number, or explain a low one. If you spot these, slow down — whatever the score says:

- No published Certificates of Analysis or third-party lab testing for what you're buying
- Marketing aimed at human use, or medical claims about a research chemical
- A score that drops sharply, or a supplier suddenly placed under review
- Clusters of glowing reviews that all read the same, with no verifiable detail
- No real way to reach a person — no address, no working contact, no complaints process

Important limits

## What the score does not mean

The Confidence Score reflects transparency, verification and reputation — not laboratory-grade proof. It does **not** guarantee:

- Product safety, purity or potency
- The legality of any product in your jurisdiction
- Medical or research suitability
- Delivery, refunds or future supplier behaviour

Always carry out your own due diligence before purchasing. See our [terms](https://peptidesupermarket.co.uk/terms) and [FAQ](https://peptidesupermarket.co.uk/faq).
